Frequently Asked Questions

Where are you located?

1406 Camp Craft Road, Suite 205 West Lake Hills, TX 78746

Do you take insurance?

Nope. Let me tell you why. I am protective of your privacy and of your therapy process. To utilize your insurance, I must give them quite a bit of information about your therapy or diagnosis, and I don’t like that. Also, insurance companies want to set the number of sessions and dictate how we work. They also want to know lots of things about your sessions for us to be able to continue. This can create for you an uncertainty around the therapy process that can interfere with its effectiveness. Also, insurance rarely covers couples therapy. Almost always, they do not consider couples work to be medically necessary, which is the thing that must be true for them to pay. So, sometimes you will have “out of network” benefits, where you pay for services and then submit a receipt and your insurance company reimburses you for some of it. I can provide a superbill for you if your insurance has this benefit.

How long will therapy take?

That depends on several things, like how often you can come in, whether you work on things in-between sessions, how long the problem has existed and how complicated it is. Therapy is one of those things where the more you put into it, the more you get out of it. People usually report feeling some relief after a few sessions, and it is not uncommon for it to take six months to a year to reach most goals, but again this depends on how complex the situation is. Once you leave therapy, you can always come back if you hit a rough spot.

How often do I come in for therapy?

I recommend once each week at first, until we get you feeling quite a bit better. Once we are further down the road, we can talk about decreasing the frequency of sessions, if you are still maintaining your progress.

What are you like?

Clients have called me easy-going, accepting and safe. I laugh a lot and use humor in therapy. I try to be studious in pursuing the latest information on therapy and creative in bringing that into the therapy room. I have been married 35 years, have three grown boys, and am a recent empty-nester. I love hanging out with my dogs, being outside, reading a book in a hammock, tacos, and a good, limey margarita.

Are you LGBTQ friendly?

I have many beloved people among my family and close friends who are part of the LGBTQ community, and I work hard to honor their reality and be sensitive to the challenges they face in our culture just because of who they are. I am a committed ally.

How do I set up an appointment?

You just send me an email or give me a call. I will get back with you, and we can talk about what’s going on and what you are looking for. I offer a free 20-minute phone consultation to be sure we are a good fit before you schedule an appointment.
